This program is called the Homeless Prevention Program and is facilitated by an outreach worker.

Housing, Extreme Weather - Mission Community Services Society - MCSS

Who We Are: Mission Community Services Society Extreme Weather Response Shelter provides temporary accommodation to those who are homeless when severe weather conditions make sleeping outdoors a risk to health and safety.  The shelter on Logan Avenue is put into service when the community’s Extreme Weather Response plan sparks notification to a number of agencies, in particular when outdoor temperatures fall below freezing level (0 degrees). “We put out mats in the upstairs open room and a meal is supplied to all who require the service,” said coordinator Ed Cassia. The program runs between Nov. 1 and March 31.

Humane Society, Fraser Valley

Who We Are: The Fraser Valley Humane Society was first formed in the summer of 1999, when the Fraser Valley (BC, Canada) was put on flood alert.  With the cooperation of veterinary facilities and volunteers from the community, we were able to establish a telephone hot-line and database to register and coordinate foster homes for pets in need. This database was available to other areas as needed, and therefore a network of help was created.  The FVHS works to eliminate the endless suffering of strays and abandoned cats in our community. Our no kill centre provides a humane approach to animal welfare. For the health and safety of the cats ALL of our cats are Indoor Cats Only.

Seeking Volunteers / Participants: The Fraser Valley Humane Society operates 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We are in desperate need of volunteers who are able to schedule and commit to a few hours of their time per week.  Help is always greatly needed in a variety of ways. If you are interested and feel you may have something to offer we would love to hear from you. If you can help as a volunteer, you are dedicated to animal welfare, and want to make a real difference helping animals in the face of this challenge, do not hesitate to contact us.

Health Care Auxiliary, Mission

Who We Are: The Mission Health Care Auxiliary Society is an organization of men and women who help Mission Memorial Hospital provide non-medical services and comforts to the patients of the hospital. In the course of many hours of volunteering, lifelong friendships have been forged. Members can be identified by their blue vests. Money raised by the Auxiliary is used for many health-related services at the Mission Memorial Hospital and local health care facilities to purchase equipment, comforts, and bus services. The challenge continues to try to ensure that Mission Memorial Hospital remains a viable hospital that can serve the immediate needs of the community. The Mission Health Care Auxiliary Society has always been there to help and assist in anyway it can. We have much for which to thank the members of the past, and we strive to continue the tradition of hard work and service into the future.
