Animal Welfare

Contact with animals has positive impacts & research reveals specific benefits like

lower blood pressure, cholesterol levels and mental health benefits.

Many shelters need volunteers for dog walking, cat cuddling, fundraising and

community education.

Fraser Valley Humane Society

Who We Are: The Fraser Valley Humane Society was first formed in the summer of 1999, when the Fraser Valley (BC, Canada) was put on flood alert.  With the cooperation of veterinary facilities and volunteers from the community, we were able to establish a telephone hot-line and database to register and coordinate foster homes for pets in need. This database was available to other areas as needed, and therefore a network of help was created.  The FVHS works to eliminate the endless suffering of strays and abandoned cats in our community. Our no kill centre provides a humane approach to animal welfare. For the health and safety of the cats ALL of our cats are Indoor Cats Only.

Seeking Volunteers / Participants: The Fraser Valley Humane Society operates 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We are in desperate need of volunteers who are able to schedule and commit to a few hours of their time per week.  Help is always greatly needed in a variety of ways. If you are interested and feel you may have something to offer we would love to hear from you. If you can help as a volunteer, you are dedicated to animal welfare, and want to make a real difference helping animals in the face of this challenge, do not hesitate to contact us.

Mission Horse Club

Who We Are:  Our shows are well attended by local riders as well as by riders from throughout the lower mainland. The shows also provide a fun family oriented atmosphere with whole families being involved in the days events. These shows offer a safe and friendly environment for riders of all levels of experience to learn and exchange ideas with each other, and grow and develop their skills in their chosen discipline(s).

Seeking Volunteers / Participants: The shows are run by a small group of volunteers and we always welcome more helping hands so if we sound like a club you are interested in getting involved in please do not hesitate to contact us.  Our show season usually starts around March or April, and runs until the months of September or October. Here is a list of areas that we need volunteers to help out:  Fundraising Events, Community Days, Banquets and Show Crew.

S.A.I.N.T.S. - Senior Animals in Need Today Society

Who We Are: We are an end-of-life sanctuary for senior and special needs animals that have nowhere else to go. We provide a special place to be loved, cherished, and receive proper medical care for the rest of their days. All animals deserve to have hope for a better tomorrow.

Seeking Volunteers / Participants: At various shelters throughout B.C., dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly to find these special animals a place to finish their journey in comfort and in love. Because of their infirmities and physical challenges, many homeless senior and special needs animals have very little chance of finding a new home. SAINTS exists to help senior and special needs animals when all else fails. If we can, in time, find them a special home of their own, then we do. If that very special home never comes, they will be safe and cherished until the end of their days.

Whiskers Pet Service

Who We Are: My name is Cathy Hamm and I opened Whiskers Pet Services in February 2004 to provide pet parents with quality pet care in Mission, BC. Since then, I have cared for hundreds of animals in their own homes. My business has been built on referrals from happy clients, veterinarians and other pet care providers.  After working in Health care for 25 years I decided to embark on a career which would allow me to follow my greatest passion; working with animals.
